The Red Bra Regatta is an annual sailing event organized by the South Beach Yacht
Club. It is a unique race that takes place in San Francisco Bay. Here are some interesting details:
1. All-Women’s Event: The Red Bra Regatta is exclusively open to boats with female
skippers and crews.
2. Keelboats> 18` long, with a valid Northern California PHRF
rating can participate.
3. Origins: The idea for the regatta emerged from a playful incident during the Jazz
Cup Race in 2011. Two friends were competing, and one felt the other should be
protested. Lacking a red flag, she resourcefully used a red bra that she had stowed in
her sail bag. The protest was registered, and thus, the Red Bra Regatta was born!!
It is a fantastic opportunity for women sailors to come together, compete, and celebrate
their love for sailing.
